Some clarification.

I don't hate modern music because I'm against the man, against the corporate machine, whatever.  I'm not against mainstream bullshit, I'm against people praising the undeserving.

Today's 'artists' are given such praise, breaking records that true musicians have set with ease and are said to be better than the truly great artists that broke their backs and put their blood, sweat and tears into their music to make it the best they possibly could.

Not to say most artists today don't have any effort into their music, but in comparison it's like this.

Lifting a 50 pound block.
Lifting a thousand pounds with nothing but your two arms.

Donating $100 to a charity that aren't truly important (not that they aren't a big deal, but still.)
Donating $1 billion to multiple charities that do matter.

Walking around your neighborhood.
Running across a country.

Now you may get what I'm going for here.

People just lifting ordinary heavy objects, opposed to those deadlifting half a tonne after training, preparing and stressing their bodies for years just for one moment to do something only a handful of people can do ever.

Someone performing an act of kindness, while still generous, pails in comparison to what a handful of others have done.

Going around collecting donations for a charity or fundraiser across your neighborhood or town, opposed to around your entire country.

Olympic athletes, Bill Gates (among others,) and Terry Fox (among others.)

Now, this doesn't mean you're dirt compared to these people, but the Olympic Athletes, Bill Gates and Terry Fox's of the music world are going around completely unnoticed, unsung or even being tossed to the dumpster because someone, somewhat attractive, is selling millions of albums pumping out generic, boring songs.

Who am I to say they're boring?  They're literally the same thing over and over and over again.  Love songs, break-up songs, self centered songs, egotistical songs and songs that aren't even songs, nor anthems. It's fucking noise some times, with a few words, if any, thrown into the mix.

Sure, back in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s we still had our love songs, break up songs, egotist songs, but we sure as hell had more songs that brought real creative though and brought to light real, deep issues.  For example, Blackened by Metallica is about the catastrophic effect we've had on the planet, destroying natural habitats for animals, polluting the waters and so on.  Vicarious by Tool; all songs by Tool are ambiguous but this song makes you think of how little of an impact humanity has on what humanity does.  You, sitting there reading this, haven't done a damn thing to truly help out.  Sure, one person can't make a difference in the world, but you could help make someone's life easier and that makes the world to them.

You just helped the world.  Mind blown right?

But forget that, lyrics about how great it is to party, drink, go crazy and how big my dick is are where real music is at, even if it really isn't music.  You go praise those who do little, I'll praise those who do a lot.  I sure as hell will feel better knowing my attention, as worthless as it is, is being spent properly.

I'm not saying you shouldn't listen to what you like, I'm saying don't fucking praise these talentless hacks for being gods of their work.  Taking a pencil, shading a vista and calling it art isn't art.  If there's no effort, no heart and no soul put into it; it's nothing.

Doesn't matter how catchy a song is, doesn't matter how much you like it, my taste in music is garbage but I still know what good music is.

I am the 1%.
